Safran Passenger Innovations

Located in Brea, California, Safran Passenger Innovations, LLC (SPI) has designed an award winning In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) system known as RAVE.  A Reliable, Affordable, and Very Easy IFEC system for both airlines as well as passengers.  Before becoming Safran Passenger Innovations, the company was first founded in 1996 as Innovative Media Solutions (IMS) where it gained success as a software consulting company.  In 2005, IMS began making portable inflight entertainment units.  In 2008, the concept of RAVE was created and in 2011, the first seat centric IFEC system was born.  In 2012, Zodiac Aerospace acquired IMS bringing RAVE to the center of the aviation market.  And, in 2018 Safran acquired Zodiac Aerospace, making Safran among the top global aerospace companies.  Since then, SPI has continued to bring innovative ideas to perfect the design and software of RAVE, maximizing the Passenger Experience, to make flying fun!  SPI has sites in both Brea, California as well as Wessling, Germany with additional field offices all over the world.

Located in Wessling, about 23 km (14 mi) south-west of Munich, Safran Passenger Innovations Germany GmbH is home to all connectivity products of the RAVE IFEC system. Before becoming part of SPI, the company was founded in 2002 as TriaGnoSys (TGS), and had its first commercial success with the development of software that enables airline passengers to use their mobile phones and internet during flights. In 2013, Zodiac Aerospace acquired TGS, and the RAVE family grew with a new connectivity component.

Today, the SPI team in Germany continues leading the development of wireless, cellular and satellite-based connectivity solutions for aircraft passengers to enable them having the most memorable connected passenger experience.  

As a high tech innovative company, SPI Germany invests continuously in Research and Technology activities and participates in relevant European and German co-funded programs with the purpose of continuing to push the know-how and expertise of our engineers to the edge of the latest communication technological developments with applicability to the IFEC business.

Safran Passenger Innovations Germany is also an LBA (Luftfahrt‐Bundesamt) certified production organisation (Part 21G) and has an ADOA (Alternative Procedures to Design Organisation Approval – Part 21O) authorization from EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency). The company is certified according to the aviation standard EN 9100:2018.
